Flight attendant Josie Adams, a colleague of ours, had succumbed to cancer a few days before our final get-together at Micke's. In this photo we are all holding a rose and toasting her memory. A copy of this photo was given to her husband, In-Charge Mark Adams. What a fitting tribute to our commitment to fight cancer!
Early on the morning of September 22, 2004 Lynn Jones received a call from Ruth Fotheringham. Some 30 years earlier Ruth had been one of Lynn’s students when she was teaching Initial Training to new flight attendants in Montreal. Over the years Lynn and Ruth had flown together on several occasions and had always enjoyed each other’s company. Ruth had recently returned from a layover on which several of the crew members had tossed around fundraising ideas over a bottle of wine. She proposed the idea of creating a calendar of ‘well-traveled’ flight attendants along the same line as the successful W. I. Calendar Girls Calendar in the United Kingdom to raise money to help their colleagues who were struggling with cancer.
Her phone call was very timely. Only four weeks earlier in August, a woman Lynn had flown with during the month of July had been diagnosed with leukemia. One day she was feeling great and living an active, normal life – the next day her suspicious bruising had been diagnosed as an aggressive form of leukemia and she was scheduled for treatment to begin at the Princess Margaret Hospital within 48 hours.

Ruth was unaware that at that same time Lynn’s own mother and sister were fighting skin cancer and breast cancer respectively. In her new role as Project Director, Ruth already had a verbal commitment from flight attendant and professional photographer Kay Woollam to shoot the calendar, and colleague Patti Baker was in the wings ready to help out with Marketing and Accounting. Ruth was familiar with some of Lynn’s writing and the early morning phone call was to ask her to help out with the design and text of the calendar. It sounded like a terrific team and on that fateful morning, CABIN FEVER 2005 was born.
